Update: Mumbai, India Alpha Care Program Crossroads continues its focus of providing children from desperately poor backgrounds the opportunity to change their destinies. That opportunity comes in the form of the Alpha Care Program – a preschool education program providing children not only an education but food, clothing, and spiritual instruction. Over the last year we’ve experienced impressive growth as our initial number of children has doubled and the program has  expanded to include an After School Tutorial Program. This program is for school aged children wanting to learn the English language. Most of these children have no Christian background but are, ironically, learning the English language by reading the Bible as their “textbook”. So while learning to read and write English, they also are hearing about the love of God and the message of salvation as teachers quiz them for comprehension and understanding of passages read.Crossroads staff member, Senti Jamir, a University educated and government licensed teacher, volunteers her time overseeing the Alpha Care Program. Senti also serves as the primary teacher educating these children and providing them with the love and support they need. The work in these children’s life is far from over, it’s actually just beginning. Looking to the near future Senti is laying plans for the start of a first grade class, expanding the current program and continuing the educational needs of these children. This expansion of the Alpha Care Program will provide an additional platform upon which to share the gospel of Christ while meeting the needs of children living in poverty. Senti also wants to see the current number of 25 children in grade zero double in size to 50 children.   Recently a team of dedicated individuals participated in a 5K race as a fundraising campaign for the Crossroads Alpha Care Center in Mumbai. Over $2,000 was raised by these intrepid volunteers. These funds will be used to expand the Alpha Care Program adding the 1st grade class Senti has wanted. We are blessed by the outpouring of financial support this event generated and are excited to see the Alpha Care Program expanding. Thank you each and every one of you who sacrificed to make this happen.
