Life Changing Impact - Alpha Care & Lucky Boy

November 2008 Nkwenkwe, “Lucky Boy”, Majola walks across the graduation platform of the Redcliffe Alpha Care Center, a small walk celebrating what has been a long journey.  His face beams with excitement as his parents, Vestaba and Lilelwa Majola’s, hearts swell with joy and relief -- finally their son has hope for a future.  Topping out at six years old Nkwenkwe never had a chance to go to school, until Crossroads came into his life. php4eoks4pm.jpg

One of nine children, Nkwenkwe twiddled away his days playing with other children along the dusty paths of the Madoni Tree Squatter Settlement or helping his parents with house work. Nkwenkwe’s father, Lilelwa, is crippled and unable to work, which has left Vestaba, his mother, the sole provider for this family of eleven.
In February 2008, Nkwenkwe was invited to enroll into the Crossroads Alpha Care Center at Redcliffe Primary School. Nkwenkwe begins his mornings at 7:30 am walking 2.5 miles to attend the Crossroads Alpha Care Program where he receives a hot breakfast and snacks to start his day and then a full regimen of education tailored for his age group. Though educationally two years behind his classmates Nkwenkwe was very eager to learn and worked hard this past year to reach this milestone of accomplishment – graduation day.

Suveera Singh, Nkwenkwe’s teacher had this to say about him -- “Nkwenkwe is a very intelligent boy, very aware of his surrounding, is able to grasp quickly the things taught to him, very obedient and well mannered. He is one of the brightest children in the class of 25. He is definitely a diamond in the rough”.

On this graduation day Nkwenkwe’s mother Vestaba sums up best the feelings and reasons for the Crossroads Alpha Care Program. Watching her young son walk across the stage to receive his graduation  certificate she is continuously stating her gratefulness to God that at last there is a dawning of something good in her young son’s life.  The dawning of that goodness is the direct result of the ongoing gifts of support from individuals like you for the Alpha Care Programs within Crossroads.phpf157jrpm.jpg

But the impact of a Crossroads Alpha Care program ventures beyond the classroom. Vestaba, Lilelwa, Nkwenkwe together with 8 other siblings attend the Madoni Tree Church planted by Crossroads in July 2008.  Today there are over 40 people who call Jesus Christ Lord and who attend service at the Madoni Tree Church each week, worshipping Christ as Savior and finding hope in living for Christ along the dusty paths of a place called Madoni Tree.
